"Fish and Chip" Babies need you!

New born babies, many suffering from Aids are being called "Fish and Chip" babies because they are sent home from hospital wrapped in newspaper for warmth. They need your help.

In order to help these tiny babieswe are asking you to knit a small jumper which will be sent to Africa to keep little children warm. Average knitters can complete a jumper in an evening. It's an easy quick pattern.

BABY JUMPER KNITTING PATTERN (KNITTED ALL IN ONE)

Double knitting yarn.
Size 6 (5mm) needles (tight knitting).
Size 7 (4.5mm) needles (loose knitting).
Cast on 44 stitches. Work 18 rows in K2 P2 rib.
Work 30 rows in stocking stitch (K1 row, P1 row).
Cast on 12 stitches at beginning of next 2 rows and change to K2P2 rib for the sleeves.
Rib 22 rows.
Next row (for the neck) rib21, cast off 26, Rib 21.
Next row Rib 21, cast on 26, rib 21.
Work 22 rows K2P2 rib.
Cast off 12 stitches in rib at beginning of next 2 rows.
Work 30 rows in stocking stitch.
Work 18 rows in K2P2 rib.
Cast off.
Sew up the side seams.

Cast on 64sts.
K2 P2 rib for 14 rows.
Stocking stitch for 14 rows.
Shape Crown
K6 K2 tod to end of row (56sts).
Alt. rows knit
K5 K2 tog to end of row (48sts).
K4 K2 tog to end of row (40sts).
K3 K2 tog to end of row (32sts).
K2 K2 tog to end of row (24sts).
K1 K2 tog to end of row (16sts).
K2 tog to end of row (8sts).
Thread sts through needle, pull up tight and stitch up seam.
